GIIS students perform at Ozone Odyssey Awareness Event hosted by CEE

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Students of Global Indian International School (GIIS) recently showcased their talent at the Ozone Odyssey awareness event hosted by Centre for Environment Education (CEE). The campaign was aimed at providing school students exposure to interact with college students and take part in activities specially designed for them.

The program started with the poster-making competition based on the theme of ‘fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change’. Shrinika Shah of grade 8th won the first position whose artwork depicted the hazardous effects of excessive usage of materials producing monoxide and carbon dioxide gases, which results in the depletion of the ozone layer. The poster was appreciated by the judges and as an honor, it was gifted to the chief guest Shri R.B. Barad, IAS, Chairman of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).

The event also comprises of three awareness competitions: Declamation, Interschool quiz competition and The Expert talk. Students from various schools participated and showcased their knowledge about ozone depletion and its effects on the environment. Suhani Agarwal of Grade 11th Science secured the second position in the Inter School Declamation Competition under the aegis of ‘Ozone Odyssey: Navigating the Atmosphere’s Comeback’. The certificate of achievement was presented by Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director of CEE and son of renowned physicist Vikram Sarabhai, Shri R.B. Barad, and D.M. Thaker, Member Secretary, GPCB.

Mr. Caesar D’silva, the Principal of Global Indian International School, Ahmedabad was overwhelmed by the victory of the students. Congratulating each one of them, he said, “Our champions have again proved their winning spirit around the city. We always try to provide our students with the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop their holistic skills. The exciting part is our students leave no stone unturned to prove themselves during such opportunities. I wish them good luck in their future endeavors.”

Overall, the event was a great success and provided an opportunity for students to learn more about the environment and how they can contribute towards its preservation. The students of GIIS were commended for their excellent performance and their commitment to creating a sustainable future.
