The Lancôme Diwali collaboration – The lotus by Sabeena Karnik
Sabeena Karnik, a paper quilling artist based in Mumbai, India, is known for her intricate typographic illustrations fashioned in paper, via a process known as quilling and paper sculpting.
Out of a palette of strips of paper, fashioned into layers, Karnik conjures her three-dimensional works of art, whose myriad colors and elaborate detailing draw the viewer into a mesmerizing universe. Karnik’s handmade designs – often inspired by natural elements – play with organic forms, which the artist achieves using strips of paper that are rolled, curled and twisted.
Says Karnik: ‘’I was greatly inspired by the rose and lotus, their petals and delicate lines, to portray depth and beauty, [while the] warm colors signify Diwali and its vibrant festive spirit.”
