Chris Jolly Inspires Educators in Pune on Early Literacy and the Power of Phonics

Pune, (Maharashtra) [India], December 01, 2025: Chris Jolly, Founder of Jolly Learning and publisher of the globally renowned Jolly Phonics programme, visited Victorious Kidss Educares, Pune, as part of his India tour to champion early literacy and phonics-based education. The visit marks another step in his ongoing effort to strengthen foundational learning across Indian classrooms.
During his engaging session with educators and school leaders, Mr. Jolly emphasized the urgent need for structured phonics training across India’s education system. He shared that synthetic phonics a proven, research-backed approach is one of the most effective methods to help children learn to read and write in their early years.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Jolly said, “When I started Jolly Phonics, reading standards in the UK were in decline. We discovered that the real solution lay not only in better materials but in a better method one that helps children connect sounds to letters and blend them to form words. India now has the same opportunity to build that strong literacy foundation.”
Highlighting India’s growing openness to English and its adaptive education system, Jolly noted that these factors create the perfect environment for innovative teaching methods like phonics to thrive. He shared that Jolly Phonics has already been successfully implemented in Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, and Ladakh, and expressed optimism about its expansion nationwide through teacher training and advocacy.
“Change happens best through persuasion, not legislation,” he said. “When teachers are trained and confident in teaching phonics, the results are remarkable children learn to read and write fluently, regardless of their background.”
Mr. Jolly also spoke about the evolving role of technology in education. While digital tools enhance engagement, he stressed the importance of balancing them with hands-on, tactile learning experiences. Jolly Learning’s digital solutions, such as the Jolly Classroom programme and Jolly Phonics Lessons App, have been designed to bridge this gap blending traditional teaching with interactive digital learning.
Addressing global literacy challenges, he remarked that while the debate around phonics continues in many countries, the real focus should now be on effective implementation. He underscored the value of decodable readers books aligned with a child’s reading level to make learning both enjoyable and impactful.
Concluding his address, Mr. Jolly reaffirmed his mission: “Our goal is simple every child, in every school, should be able to read and write confidently from an early age. Strong literacy skills are the foundation of lifelong learning, and that begins with phonics.”
With more than three decades of experience in education and multiple global honors including an OBE (Order of the British Empire) Chris Jolly continues to inspire educators worldwide to transform early learning through evidence-based practices. His visit to Victorious Kidss Educares, Pune, reinforces his commitment to empowering teachers and unlocking every child’s potential through the joy of reading.
